bulletMy 1st Birthday

A whole year has passed since I was born! Isn't that incredible? Compare these two photos. The one on the left was taken within minutes of me being born. The one on the right was taken at the first of my first birthday parties.

Newborn me.
Me at one year.

How did I manage to change from that little squishy squiggle to the fine example of toddlerhood you see before you? A year ago I couldn't do much more than drink milky, sleep, cry, stare at things, poo and wee. I still can do all of these things, but I can now crawl, play, dance, sing, babble, understand some of what my parents say to me (when I choose to listen to them of course), smile, laugh, eat solid food, explore, recognise friends and family and many many more things beside. I'm even almost walking! I'm now not just a little baby - I am my own little person.

bulletMy First Birthday Parties

I had two parties for my first birthday. The first, on the 11th December, was for my family and their friends. Invited were Mamma, Daddy, Nonna, Uncle Stephen and Auntie Anne, Grandad John and Barrie and Jackie. This was the party for the benefit of the Grown-Ups, but I made sure that I was the centre of attention. If you haven't seen a big group of grown ups all singing and dancing along to 'If You're Happy And You Know It', then you really have missed out on something special. Especially when you realise that it was me and my VTech alphabet desk that was keeping them at it. I kept pushing that Circle button and they kept on singing and dancing! Brilliant!

Nonna made a special Sicilian dish involving rice, ragu and lots of cheese called a timballo. It was very tasty indeed. Mamma and Daddy made me a chocolate birthday cake with a big smile on top in icing sugar. That was very tasty too. I was given lots of gifts; a Baby Touch toy from my parents, books from my parents, Nonna and Grandad John, gift vouchers for my first walking shoes from Grandad John, a wooden toy and teeshirt from Stephen and Anne, and a fluffy jumper from Barrie and Jackie. Thank you everyone!

The second birthday party was actually on my birthday, 12 December. This party was for my friends. Invited were Mamma, Daddy, Nonna, Alex (and his mummy Julia), Alice (and her mummy Nickie), Andrew (and mummy Alison), Ellen (and mummy Sarah). Sadly my boyfriend Jake couldn't make the party because he was visiting his grandparents (boo!). At this party we had a yummy chocolate panettone of the kind that everyone (apart from me obviously) enjoyed last Christmas. Needless to say, I tried the panettone and really enjoyed it. This party was a bit chaotic - if you put five one year old babies in a confined area you normally would expect a least a little confusion - but everyone had a great time. Ellen tried hiding Nickie's trainers and I made friends with Alex. I hope Jake doesn't find out! I will be getting a combined Christmas and birthday present from one of my friends in a week; something called a Secret Santa. I wonder who it will be?

After two days of partying, my house was a real state. Poor Mamma, Daddy and Nonna had to tidy up all the mess!

I wonder what will happen when I am two?

bulletPhotos From My First Birthday Parties

Party 1 (11/12/2005):

All I want for Christmas is a Tupperware bowl and a spoon...
Maybe grown up food isn't that bad after all.
That t-shirt says 'Like Daddy, but a lot cuter' in Swedish.
My birthday cake!
The grandparents.
What does this button do?

Party 2 (12/12/2005):

5 babies x 1 party = CHAOS
I wonder if Auntie Nickie will need those later...?
