It's That Time Of Year Again
December
has to be my favourite time of year. My birthday is on the
12th of the month, then roughly two weeks later Christmas
happens. It's a shame that all these celebrations arrive so
close together, but it is so very exciting.
My parents
have been hatching a secret plan for next year. All I've heard
so far is a codename - Operation 'Santa
Giulia' - and how something nice will happen in May for
me. I don't think this has anything to do with Santa Claus,
nor his wife Mary Christmas. I'll keep you posted if there
are any developments.
Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree
Last year,
my parents took photographs of me laying in my Moses basket
under the Christmas Tree. Obviously I don't remember anything
about that, so it was a lovely surprise to come downstairs
with Mamma one morning and see our Christmas Tree. I was amazed
at how brightly coloured it all was, at all the sparkly lights
and the pretty decorations. I was less impressed by the play
gym that my parents had erected around it to prevent me from
hurting myself. So, as you can imagine, my initial delight
at 7 am on Monday 28th November had turned into frustration
by 3 pm and tears by the following morning. Luckily Nonna
has hit upon a compromise. I can touch some of the decorations
when she is around, but otherwise the tree is completely out
of bounds. This means I get to play with my favourite decorations,
but without making Mamma and Daddy too worried. My favourite
decorations are the tin Santa, the wooden teddy-bear angels
and the little wooden green stars.
The most
fascinating thing about the tree is that parcels keep appearing
under it, wrapped in brightly coloured paper and ribbon. Very
interesting...
Nursery Time
When Nonna
returns to Italy in January, I will be attending a nursery
in Woodley three mornings a week. I visited the nursery on
13 December and I had a wonderful time playing with the other
children, singing songs and discovering all the new toys there.
I enjoyed it so much that I cried when we had to leave.
I will
be visiting again two more times before Christmas and my parents
are hoping that I will have just as much fun these times too.
Daddy
is feeling a little sad that I am starting nursery; his little
girl is growing up! He understands that me starting nursery
is a Good Thing because I will learn how to play with other
children and I will discover new things every day.
Four Legs Good. Two Legs
Better
Those
walking practice games
I mentioned last month have yielded some excellent results!
If someone holds my hand I can now walk around without any
difficulty. I'm slightly more confident if someone holds my
right hand than my left. In fact, leading a willing parent
around by the hand is my favourite game right now.
Then,
on the 27th December, I did something even more spectacular.
Nonna and Mamma were sitting on the floor with their feet
just touching. To everyone's surprise I managed to walk the
metre or so between them without any help (after they had
helped me balance)! I've got better at this too. By 8th January
I had managed to walk nearly three metres unaided. My parents
are very proud of me.
The next
step is to get into a standing position and start walking
without any help from anyone or anything. My parents believe
that I am more than capable, just lacking the confidence to
do it.
