Nonna Is Here!
Nonna
is staying with us for a couple of months. This means that
Mamma and Daddy can have a rest in the morning. Nonna loves
playing with me at 5am!
Mamma
went back to work this month. She is working most mornings
at the moment, meaning that I spend a lot of time with my
Nonna. She is helping me with three very important things:
1)
Eating
It is
every Nonna's duty to ensure that their grandchildren eat
lots and lots. Even if said grandchildren aren't particularly
hungry, their Nonna has to keep them busy eating. My Nonna
is no different. Since I had been a bit poorly with teething
and suspected lactose intolerance related diahorrea for a
few weeks, my Nonna made sure that I ate lots of delicious
things. She entertained me by pulling funny faces, singing
songs and by dancing in a silly way. Meal times are never
dull with my Nonna! It seems to have worked - I've gained
almost a kilo since she arrived in early November. I now have
a lovely round tummy!
2)
Walking
Very,
very important this. I have enjoyed standing up and cruising
for several months now, but until Nonna arrived I wasn't confident
enough to proceed to the next step (pardon the pun). There
are two walking games that I enjoy; walking around with my
Nonna / Mamma / Daddy holding my hands and walking between
two seated people so they can catch me. I'm getting very good
at these games. Everyone is hoping that I will be walking
by the time I start Nursery in January.
Nonna
bought me my first pair of shoes too - a pair of Clarks pink
crawling shoes with buckles. They are very pretty and my walking
has really improved from wearing them. Thank you Nonna!
3)
Talking
Thanks
to Nonna, Mamma and Daddy I have become an accomplished babbler.
I can now understand lots of words and phrases in English
and Italian, even if I tend to guess some the answers to some
of my family's questions.
For example,
I like cows. I call them 'Moos'. Whenever I see a picture
of a cow, a toy cow or anything that looks like a cow I say
'Moo!'. Unfortunately there are lots of other animals that
look a bit like cows (for example dogs, cats, sheep, aardvarks...)
that I also call 'Moos'. The only other animals that I can
recognise right now are ducks (I make a squelchy quack noise)
and fish (I open and close my mouth like a fish). Daddy says
that soon I will be better at recognising other animals so
I shouldn't worry.
I also
understand the word 'No', even if I ignore why it is being
said most of the time. I also shake my head (as if to say
'No' too) before doing something naughty.
Dancing Queen
Daddy
thinks that I will be a musical little girl when I grow up.
Let's examine the evidence:
1)
Dancing
I have
a few musical toys that play tunes when you press the right
button on them. I have a musical piano (that plays 'Twinkle
Twinkle Little Star' and 'This Old Man'), a pop-up musical
piano (excerpts from 'Peter and the Wolf', 'Vivaldi's Four
Seasons' plus the usual nursery rhymes) and an VTech alphabet
desk that plays 'If You're Happy And You Know It', 'Twinkle
Twinkle Little Star', 'Incey Wincey Spider' and 'I've Been
Working On The Railroad'. What I like to do is start one of
the toys playing by pressing the right button (all my myself
natch!) then start dancing. For me, dancing means bouncing
up and down on my knees. What is even more fun is to start
all of the toys playing together then start dancing, but this
gives Mamma, Daddy and Nonna a headache.
My parents
have also discovered that I am a fan of ABBA's 'Mamma Mia'
and 'Does Your Mother Know'. Same dance as before, just a
bit faster. Auntie Anne (who is Swedish herself and an ABBA
fan) is very proud of me.
2)
Singing
I like
singing along to my musical toys. I'm more proficient with
the rhythm of the music than the actual tune, but I'm getting
better.
3)
Musical Instruments
I have
quite a few rattles, tamborines, shakers and other percussion
instruments. I really enjoy playing with them. However, best
fun of all is getting a spoon and a plastic box and bashing
them together - for a really long time. My personal record
is currently about twenty minutes, at which point I had a
little Code Brown accident and I had to taken away to be changed.
Christmas Is Coming!
Christmas
was a bit of a mystery to me last year. This year might be
as well but for different reasons. All through November, Mamma
kept putting me in really cute party dresses and trying to
take photographs of me. She wouldn't tell me why exactly,
but I heard snippets of words like 'Birthday Invites' and
'Christmas Presents'. I'm sure all will be revealed soon enough.
I look
lovely in my photos, by the way.
